On October 31st, on the occasion of the 19th anniversary of the successful launch of the first satellite of Beidou-1, the newly hired team of chief designers of the Beidou satellite navigation system collectively visited Academician Sun Jiadong, a recipient of the "Medal of the Republic", a founding member of the "Two Bombs and One Satellite" program, and the first chief designer of the Beidou satellite navigation system. Academician Sun, who is 90 years old, highly praised the development of the Beidou-3 system and expressed his expectations for the newly hired chief designer team of the Beidou satellite navigation system. He said, "We will not forget the original intention of the construction and development of the Beidou system, nor forget the mission of creating a world-class satellite navigation system, so that the Beidou system can better serve the development of the national economy and meet the human demand for precise time and spaceThis is a revisiting of the original intention between the old generation of Beidou people and the new era Beidou people, and also a sincere request from the old generation of Beidou people to the new era Beidou people. At present, the construction of the Beidou-3 global system has entered the final sprint stage, and the Beidou system is in a transitional period from construction to application. In order to adapt to this change, the Beidou Engineering Headquarters has optimized and adjusted the personnel of the chief designer team. Yang Changfeng has been hired as the chief designer of the Beidou satellite navigation system, Yang Yuanxi, Ran Chengqi, Xie Jun, Guo Shuren, and Wu Haitao have been hired as deputy chief designers, and Gao Weiguang has been hired as an assistant chief designer. This has enriched the strength of the chief designer team, added Beidou application experts and young and middle-aged technology experts, and provided strong organizational support for the system's transformation, upgrading, and long-term development.In the process of the construction and development of the Beidou satellite navigation system, we have always adhered to Qian Xuesen's concept of "overall design department", established a recruitment mechanism for the chief designer team, and selected talented individuals without any constraints, providing strong theoretical guidance, technical guidance, and decision-making support for the development of the Beidou satellite navigation industry. In 1994, Academician Sun Jiadong was appointed as the first chief designer of the Beidou satellite navigation system, and was continuously employed for 21 years. He led his team to complete the construction tasks of China's Beidou-1, Beidou-2, and Beidou-3 experimental satellites, exploring a satellite navigation development path that is in line with China's national conditions, and laying a solid foundation for the leapfrog development of the Beidou-3 system. In 2015, Academician Sun voluntarily resigned and recommended Yang Changfeng as the chief designer of Beidou-3. Yang Changfeng led his team to continue their efforts and completed the basic system construction of the Beidou-3 global system last year, starting to provide services to the world. Next year, the Beidou-3 global system will be fully established, becoming China's first space infrastructure to provide public services to the world. The goal of the Beidou system becoming a world-class satellite navigation system is gradually becoming a reality.Subsequently, the construction task of the Beidou satellite navigation system remains heavy, and the era of application is coming one after another. Facing the new era and new mission, Chief Designer Yang Changfeng stated that we must fully leverage the role of the Chief Designer team as the "locomotive" to ensure the successful completion of the Beidou-3 project next year, promote the innovative development of the Beidou comprehensive positioning, navigation, and timing system, make due contributions to building a strong aerospace country, and make "Chinese contributions" to promoting the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind.
