On December 27, 2019, with the launch of "Chang Wu", China's independently developed, heaviest, and most technologically advanced high orbit satellite, the Shijian 20 satellite, soared into the sky. Today, good news came from the Fifth Academy of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, the research and development unit of the satellite. This satellite completed a series of "high difficulty" maneuvers in just nine days and has successfully reached the target location. It has also conducted a series of in orbit experiments to verify new technologies and achieved important experimental results.Practice 20 Satellite: Unlocking New Skills in SpaceSkill 1: Unfold the giant wings. The Practice 20 satellite has a giant solar wing, which is 10 meters wider than the wingspan of a Boeing 737 aircraft. What is the purpose of this giant wing? According to experts from the Fifth Academy of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, once the solar wings are fully deployed, they can provide a continuous supply of super strong current to the satellite, ensuring that the Shijian-20 satellite always has sufficient physical strength to provide broadcasting, television, mobile communication and other services for more friends.
Skill 2: Seven track changes. On the early morning of January 4th, after seven orbital maneuvers, the satellite successfully reached geosynchronous orbit. The protagonist in completing orbital maneuvers is the chemical propulsion system, whose most important task is to replace the carrier rocket and use a high-performance chemical propulsion system to send the satellite into a geosynchronous orbit at an altitude of 36000 kilometers. Orbital maneuvering is a comprehensive assessment of the main performance of chemical propulsion systems, and in these 7 orbital maneuvers, the chemical propulsion system performed excellently. It is reported that the electric propulsion system of the follow-up Practice 20 satellite will take over the relay of chemical propulsion, pushing the satellite to accurately "float" at a fixed position above our heads at an altitude of 36000 kilometers. The chemical propulsion system will play the role of "being able to climb up at any time if needed by the organization" and "step back to the second line" to rest quietly.Skill 3: Dual axis vector adjustment. In order to ensure that the Practice-20 satellite always stays at its post and does not run away from home, it is also necessary for the satellite to complete a dual axis vector adjustment mechanism in orbit operation. The vector adjustment mechanism is a key product equipped to maximize the effectiveness of the electric propulsion system for the practical 20th satellite, which can adjust the direction of engine thrust. At present, the four mechanisms have been successfully unlocked and rotated to the target angle with high precision, laying a solid foundation for the smooth ignition of the subsequent electric propulsion system. Subsequently, the electric propulsion system will start ignition according to the satellite mission plan and will continue to undertake the long-term position maintenance and momentum wheel unloading tasks of the satellite throughout its entire life cycle.Skill 4: Unlock the laser terminal in orbit. On January 4th, the Practice 20 laser terminal was successfully unlocked in orbit, and a large-scale functional inspection of the rotating mechanism was immediately carried out. The product is currently in good condition and has successfully achieved the set goals. Subsequent products will carry out a series of experiments such as high-speed coherent laser communication, further accumulating engineering data of satellite laser communication links, laying the technical foundation for the development of higher rate laser communication payloads, and meeting the urgent needs of high-speed inter satellite and satellite ground information transmission.Dongfanghong-5 platform
The main force of space earth communication in the next 20 yearsThe successful positioning of the Practice-20 satellite marks a significant breakthrough in the verification of the Dongfanghong-5 platform, and also indicates that China is entering the international first-class communication satellite "club". Dongwu Platform is a new generation of large-scale geosynchronous orbit satellite platform independently developed by China. According to the design specifications, the takeoff weight of satellites based on the "Dongwu" platform can reach 8000-9000kg, and the payload capacity can reach 1500-1800kg; The overall power of the satellite is above 28kW, providing a load power of up to 18kW; The heat dissipation capacity of the payload compartment reaches 9kW; The design lifespan is up to 16 years. More importantly, the Dongwu platform can meet the development needs of different functional satellites and can be widely applied in various fields such as high orbit communication, microwave remote sensing, optical remote sensing, space science exploration, scientific experiments, and in orbit services. It is one of the few adaptive platforms in the world's aerospace industry.
Academician Zhou Zhicheng, Chief Engineer of the Fifth Academy of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, Commander in Chief of the Practice-20 Satellite, and Commander in Chief of the Dongwu Platform, introduced that compared with China's active "main products" Dongsan and Dongsi Platforms, the Dongwu Platform has made a leap forward in key performance indicators such as weight, power, and in orbit life, which will fill the gap in China's large-scale satellite platform spectrum and meet the demand for high-capacity satellite applications in the next 20 years. In addition, the "Dongwu" platform has innovated its design concept and achieved intelligent autonomous operation and management, effectively improving the usability and ease of use of satellites; Through modular design and digital development mode, the development cycle has been significantly shortened, effectively improving the efficiency of design and production. In addition, the single machine localization rate of the platform has reached 100%, which will effectively drive the development of China's aerospace equipment. It is reported that after the successful positioning of the Practice-20 satellite, practical in orbit testing work will be carried out to further verify the key technologies of the Dongwu platform. The Fifth Academy of Aerospace Science and Technology will accelerate the in orbit testing and verification of the Dongwu platform, enabling more and more satellites in China to use the world-class Dongwu platform as soon as possible, and making new and greater contributions to realizing the great dream of becoming a space power as soon as possible.Source: China NewsThe main force of space earth communication in the next 20 years
